Haslemere’s first Classic Car Show and Tour, sponsored and organised by Ross & Ewing, wowed the enthusiastic crowds on Bank Holiday Monday. Over 45 cars,
including a number from the twinned French town of Bernay, assembled in the
morning for a Tour which was to take them down some of the region’s most beautiful country roads to Goodwood, where Lord March and his team had
very kindly agreed to escort them on two laps of the historic motor racing
circuit.
Returning to Haslemere early in the afternoon the cars, now totalling over 70,
were lined up and the public voted for ‘the car they would most like to take home’. After counting, the ‘People’s Choice’ trophy, specially made by James Ewing, was awarded to Phyllis Hewetson and her
Rolls-Royce 20hp Tourer, whilst a bottle of Champagne was presented to Yvonne
Denis from Bernay in recognition of her help throughout. All agreed that the
day had been a great success.
