The second Haslemere Classic Car Show & Tour organised by Ross & Ewing took place in wonderful sunshine, on Sunday 30 May at Lion Green in Haslemere. Around 50 pre-73 type cars assembled on the Green for breakfast and sign on and then left for a tour of around 45 miles through the beautiful Surrey countryside. On route there was a stop at a private collection of cars and automobilia which was much appreciated by the participants.
Back on the Green, the tour was joined by other classic vehicles to provide a great display for the public. Well over 100 cars of all shapes and sizes were on show, the smallest an Isetta 'bubble car', closely followed by a Fiat Toppolino, the largest being a Rolls-Royce Phantom 1. The most exotic was probably a BMW 328. There was a good cross section from the great British makes of MG, Sunbeam, Jaguar, Austin Healey and Triumph, other marques included Jenson, Lagonda, Frazer Nash and Delage.
The 'People's Choice' award sponsored by R & E became a contest between the oldest and the most unusual with the Stanley Steam car being just pipped to the post by a 1911 Renault owned by Frank Walton. Marcus made a short speech, thanking the car owners for attending and then the trophy was presented by 1940's style pin-up girl 'Fleur de Guerre'.
The event included stalls selling local foods, crafts and vintage apparel. The whole event had a relaxed 'garden party' atmosphere and was enjoyed by all.
It is hoped that the event will take place again in 2011. If you would like to be put on the email list to receive information  haslemere@ross-ewing.co.uk
